Job Description – Programs Assistant, Part-Time

Organization

Touchstone Foundation’s mission is to elevate the mental well-being of youth and children in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Our work focuses on building the mental health workforce, increasing access to mental health services, and raising awareness about the importance of mental health care.

We provide programs, scholarships, and training for students and recent graduates. We support youth and families by helping to make therapy and counseling more accessible and affordable. We advocate for health equity and policy change to improve the mental well-being of youth, families, and providers in Lancaster County.

Touchstone Foundation is a people-oriented organization dedicated to serving our community. Our office is in a beautiful, historic building located downtown, in walkable Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Position

Reporting to the Programs Manager, the Programs Assistant implements our programs to raise awareness about youth mental wellness, increase access to mental health care, and help students and recent graduates pursue careers in mental health. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to take initiative, and express integrity. Experience with other community benefit organizations is a plus.

The Programs Assistant works closely with the Programs Manager, Executive Director, Operations Manager & Accountant, and Communications & Development Manager at the organization to support and assist the Programs Manager in running our five current programs serving students, families, and mental health professionals in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

This is a Part-Time, in-person position, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 17602, with travel within Lancaster County. Our office is open from 8:00 am-5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities

  • Program Facilitation: Facilitate sessions with high school students, either during the school day or after school, following our Rise Above curriculum. The curriculum includes a minimum of three choices for each topic- talking point discussion prompts, guest speakers, activities for mental health techniques, and creative self-expression artistic workshops. Review client applications for eligibility and program enrollment.
  • Administrative Support: Manage staff calendars, coordinate meetings, and maintain program files. Ensure program participants complete applications and submit parent/guardian permission forms for attendance. Update evaluation forms and collect responses for continuing education coordination. Coordinate with Operations/Accounting to ensure that program funds are tracked and spent per guidelines, that applications are approved or denied based on eligibility.
  • Program & Grant Coordination: Assist with tracking grant deadlines, processing applications, and maintaining donor/grantee databases. Identify grant opportunities and assist in writing and editing grant applications and reports. Assist in securing fundraising event auction items.
  • Data Entry & Reporting: Collect, record, and analyze program statistics to assess service impact. Assist programs staff in gathering monitoring and tracking feedback from program participants including a survey before, during and after the program. Utilize current database systems to update and maintain accurate program records, including tracking Key Performance Indicators data.
  • Communication & Outreach: Serve as the first point of contact for program inquiries, handle correspondence, and support outreach initiatives. Assist staff in building resource pages on our website to provide a comprehensive list of partners and other services in Lancaster County. Create education and awareness materials to help youth and young people understand how to engage with policy change and advocacy on mental health topics. Communicate with mental health providers, colleges and universities, and other stakeholders about program guidelines.
  • Logistics & Events: Plan and support workshops, community events, school meetings, and staff meetings. Recruit panelists, moderators, speakers, attendees. Increase program participation, enrollment, and applications from patients and providers by joining Programs Manager in meetings and presentations.
  • Professional Development & Advocacy – attend local, regional, statewide, and national opportunities for continuous learning. Join Programs Manager and Executive Director in creating and updating papers for advocacy efforts.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED required and 1-2 years’ experience in nonprofit, schools, community benefit organizations, public health, psychology, or macro-level social work preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Upon hire, must have the ability to obtain all current clearances and background checks to work with children, which will be paid for by the employer.
  • Relevant and transferable skills in nonprofit management, macro-level social work, psychology, public health, business or related field.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively. Strong organizational skills are preferred.
  • Experiencing working with students and/or leading group discussions in mental health topics preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with database systems, CRM software, and technology; Microsoft is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize competing demands.
  • Holds self and others accountable for results.
  • Take responsibility and initiates projects with an open mind for constructive feedback and learning.
  • Key attention to detail, strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Team-oriented to support staff and volunteers, actively collaborating on program management, external communications, and fundraising tasks alongside the staff team.
  • Ability to constructively address and resolve conflict.
  • Bilingual or multilingual language fluency preferred, especially in Spanish.
  • Curiosity and sense of humor.
  • The ideal candidate will be willing to learn and open to new ideas.

Working hours: 20-25 hours per week, part-time, hourly position with flexible but consistent hours.

  • This is an in-person position based in Lancaster, PA.
  • Salary Range: $20-$22 per hour, depending on education, experience, and qualifications.
  • Some required mornings, evenings, and weekends to attend events. Advance notice will be given.
  • Paid parking space.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20-$22 per hour, for 20-25 hours per week.

Committee Service Opportunities

These volunteer opportunities are open to all Lancaster County residents, age 18 and older, for a one-year term. All committees meet in a hybrid format, with the option to join in-person at the Touchstone Foundation office or online via Teams. Committee members are appointed by the Board of Directors. Staff provide a one-hour committee member orientation for all new and returning members.  
 

  • Audit Committee – meets four times per year, first Tuesdays from 8:30 – 9:00 am.  Seeking volunteers with experience in law, operations, insurance, accounting, and finance. Committee members provide oversight responsibilities for financial reporting, the system of internal controls over financial reporting, audit process, and monitoring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.    

 

  • Access Committee – meets six times per year, first Mondays, 12:00 – 1:00 pm, online. Seeking volunteers with experience in mental health including education and schools (K-12 and college/university), psychology, psychiatry, social work, therapy, counseling, education, law, policy, nonprofit management, community service, and personal experiences. Committee members provide strategic direction on youth mental wellness and managing programs including Mental Health Access Assistance, Rise Above Program, Youth Mentorship, and more. The Access Committee also advocates for youth mental wellness, advocacy and policy change in our community.        
       
  • Finance & Investment Committee – meets quarterly, Tuesdays from 9:00 – 10:00 am.  Seeking volunteers with experience in institutional wealth management, banking, finance, investment, and law. Committee members provide oversight responsibilities for the investment assets, endowment funds, managing the external investment advisors, and formulating the overall investment policies.    
       
  • Event Planning Task Force – meets monthly and on an individual basis, first Wednesdays, 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Task force members assist staff, event planners, and consultants in organizing and planning events, managing the development plan, help to secure auction items, brainstorm ideas for event sponsors, and provide ideas for donor engagement opportunities.    
       
  • Mental Health Careers Scholarships Task Force – meets 3-4 times per year, in June and July to review applications and interview candidates. Task force members review scholarship applications and determine awards, reporting to the Talent Pipeline Committee with their recommendations. Seeking volunteers with experience in clinical mental health careers and higher education, financial aid services, and community service organizations, such as social work, psychology, nursing, and related degrees. 
       
  • Talent Pipeline Committee – meets six times per year, third Fridays, 12:00-1:00 pm. Seeking volunteers with experience in the mental health workforce, including education, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, philanthropy, local government, law, policy, nonprofit management, community service, and personal experiences. Committee members strategic direction on building the mental health talent pipeline and workforce development. This committee oversees the Mental Health Clinical Fellowships, annual Symposium, and Mental Health Careers Scholarship program and advocates for workforce development policies in the mental health fields.    

 

  • Marketing and Communications Taskforce– meets quarterly, TBD. Taskforce members will establish priorities and action steps that will help us maximize our capacity and impact. Finalize and implement a strategic Marketing and Communications Plan, ensuring Touchstone Foundation strengthens its brand voice, enhances its outreach, and solidifies its presence as a mental health and wellness leader in Lancaster County. Seeking volunteers with expertise in marketing, fundraising, communications, development, nonprofit organizations, social media, photography, videography, graphic design, and media.  

Board Service

Our Board members are elected for a three-year term and serve no more than two terms. Board members volunteer their time and expertise, guiding the overall strategy of our organization. We recruit Board members for their specific professional and personal experience, striving to represent our Lancaster County community.  

Most Board members serve on a committee before joining the Board of Directors. Board members are responsible for developing policies, procedures, and regulations for the organization’s operations and monitoring financial health, programs, and overall performance. They maintain a working knowledge of finances, operations, programs, and legal framework.  

The Touchstone Foundation Board of Directors meets six times per year, on the second Thursday from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Additionally, officers serve on an Executive Committee which meets six times per year on the second Thursday from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.

Board Member – Licensed Clinical Provider Representative

Touchstone Foundation is seeking a Board Member who is a licensed clinical provider to bring direct practice expertise and clinical insight to its governance and strategic direction. This role is well suited for a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), psychologist, or similarly credentialed clinician.

This board position ensures that the Foundation’s programs, policies, and funding strategies remain grounded in ethical, evidence-based, and trauma-informed mental health practice.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • Active clinical license (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, PsyD, PhD, or equivalent)

  • Experience providing mental health services to children, youth, and/or families

  • Familiarity with community-based, school-based, or clinical settings

  • Understanding of barriers to care, including access, cost, and workforce shortages

Board Member – Education & School Systems Representative

Touchstone Foundation is seeking a Board Member with a background in education or school-based services to provide insight, leadership, and guidance on issues impacting youth mental wellness within academic settings.

This role is ideal for an individual with experience as a school board member, educator, professor, classroom teacher, school social worker, or school counselor, who understands the intersection of education, mental health, and student well-being.

Desired Experience & Qualifications:

  • Professional background in education or school-based mental health services

  • Experience with curriculum development, student services, counseling, social work, or school governance

  • Familiarity with challenges facing students, educators, and school systems

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and youth-centered approaches
