Summer 2026 Communications Internship: 

Touchstone Foundation has immediate opportunities in Summer 2026 for one or two communications assistant intern(s) to create social media content, write news articles for our website, and work on webpage updates. The intern(s) will serve as a Communications Assistant, also helping with some event support.

Internships are unpaid and available for a hybrid work environment, with at least one day of in-person hours at our beautiful office in downtown Lancaster, PA, with some remote/virtual hours available.

Majors best served by our opportunities include (but are not limited to):

Communications, Public Relations, English, Marketing, Journalism, Business, Information Technology, Graphic Design, Psychology, Social Work, or related majors.

About Us
Touchstone Foundation works to improve the mental well-being of youth and children in Lancaster County. We value caring, collaboration, a whole-person approach, advocacy, and visibility. We provide mental health copay & deductible assistance, scholarships, a high school youth summit, clinical fellowships for pre-license therapists/counselors, and professional development training in Lancaster County.

About Our Internships

We offer internships to qualified Lancaster County students who possess exceptional communication skills and would like exposure to Lancaster County’s nonprofit community. These internships may be tailored to specific areas of focus within our work, depending on the student’s academic major and areas of interests. All internships include general and clerical office tasks. Hours are negotiable.

Start times are flexible, year-round, and based on the school calendar.

  • School Year (Fall and Spring Semesters) – A minimum of 10 hours per week, not exceeding 20 hours per week during Fall and Spring semesters. These hours can be flexible and scheduled to meet the needs of both the Touchstone Foundation and intern.
  • Winter/Summer Breaks A minimum of 10 hours per week, not exceeding 30 hours per week for at least 4 weeks during your school’s Winter break and/or for at least 10 weeks during summer. These hours can be flexible and scheduled to meet the needs of both the intern and Touchstone Foundation. 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Social Media Content Management
    • Create and schedule weekly content via Hootsuite for Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
    • Aligning all content with Touchstone Foundation’s brand guidelines and voice.
    • Produce visual content using Canva, maintaining brand integrity.
  2. Blog Writing and WordPress Publishing
    • Contribute two (2) original blog posts per month in interview or article format.
    • Collaborate with staff or external partners for interview-style posts.
    • Format and upload blogs using WordPress.
  3. Website and Event Material Support
    • Collaborate with the Communications Manager to update the Student Symposium webpage using Elementor.
    • Assist in editing and finalizing the program print layout and event slideshow materials.
  4. Merchandise and Partner Research
    • Research potential branded merchandise vendors for Rise Above and Student Symposium.
    • Create a shortlist with quotes, timelines, and product suggestions.
  5. Program & Facility Support: Assist in organizing and rearranging the Foundation’s lobby to highlight current project artwork and the LOHF History Timeline.
  6. Digital Toolkit Development
    • Support the creation of a digital toolkit and accompanying print materials for the Rise Above Curriculum with Communications Manager.
    • Draft content, design in Canva, and organize files.
  7. Event Support
    • Attend two (2) Rise Above sessions and conduct Instagram Live coverage with prior approval.
    • Capture photos and/or video content for future use.
  8. Strategic Messaging & Outreach
    • Provide ideas and feedback on campaign messaging, content strategy, and outreach execution for Touchstone programs.
    • Assist in developing rollouts for merchandise and branded materials.
  9. Constituent Outreach and CRM Support
    • Learn and assist in targeted audience segmentation using Little Green Light (LGL).
    • Assist in building and sending email campaigns using Mailchimp.
    • Support SMS campaign development and targeting strategies.
  10. Video Content Creation
    • Assist with video content capture during programs.
    • Learn editing tools and templated plugins for short-form video content (Reels, Instagram/Facebook).
    • Produce at least two (2) edited videos for Rise Above and/or Student Symposium promotional purposes.

Committee Service Opportunities

These volunteer opportunities are open to all Lancaster County residents, age 18 and older, for a one-year term. All committees meet in a hybrid format, with the option to join in-person at the Touchstone Foundation office or online via Teams. Committee members are appointed by the Board of Directors. Staff provide a one-hour committee member orientation for all new and returning members.  
 

  • Audit Committee – meets four times per year, first Tuesdays from 8:30 – 9:00 am.  Seeking volunteers with experience in law, operations, insurance, accounting, and finance. Committee members provide oversight responsibilities for financial reporting, the system of internal controls over financial reporting, audit process, and monitoring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.    

 

  • Access Committee – meets six times per year, first Mondays, 12:00 – 1:00 pm, online. Seeking volunteers with experience in mental health including education and schools (K-12 and college/university), psychology, psychiatry, social work, therapy, counseling, education, law, policy, nonprofit management, community service, and personal experiences. Committee members provide strategic direction on youth mental wellness and managing programs including Mental Health Access Assistance, Rise Above Program, Youth Mentorship, and more. The Access Committee also advocates for youth mental wellness, advocacy and policy change in our community.        
       
  • Finance & Investment Committee – meets quarterly, Tuesdays from 9:00 – 10:00 am.  Seeking volunteers with experience in institutional wealth management, banking, finance, investment, and law. Committee members provide oversight responsibilities for the investment assets, endowment funds, managing the external investment advisors, and formulating the overall investment policies.    
       
  • Event Planning Task Force – meets monthly and on an individual basis, first Wednesdays, 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Task force members assist staff, event planners, and consultants in organizing and planning events, managing the development plan, help to secure auction items, brainstorm ideas for event sponsors, and provide ideas for donor engagement opportunities.    
       
  • Mental Health Careers Scholarships Task Force – meets 3-4 times per year, in June and July to review applications and interview candidates. Task force members review scholarship applications and determine awards, reporting to the Talent Pipeline Committee with their recommendations. Seeking volunteers with experience in clinical mental health careers and higher education, financial aid services, and community service organizations, such as social work, psychology, nursing, and related degrees. 
       
  • Talent Pipeline Committee – meets six times per year, third Fridays, 12:00-1:00 pm. Seeking volunteers with experience in the mental health workforce, including education, psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, philanthropy, local government, law, policy, nonprofit management, community service, and personal experiences. Committee members strategic direction on building the mental health talent pipeline and workforce development. This committee oversees the Mental Health Clinical Fellowships, annual Symposium, and Mental Health Careers Scholarship program and advocates for workforce development policies in the mental health fields.    

 

  • Marketing and Communications Taskforce– meets quarterly, TBD. Taskforce members will establish priorities and action steps that will help us maximize our capacity and impact. Finalize and implement a strategic Marketing and Communications Plan, ensuring Touchstone Foundation strengthens its brand voice, enhances its outreach, and solidifies its presence as a mental health and wellness leader in Lancaster County. Seeking volunteers with expertise in marketing, fundraising, communications, development, nonprofit organizations, social media, photography, videography, graphic design, and media.  

Board Service

Our Board members are elected for a three-year term and serve no more than two terms. Board members volunteer their time and expertise, guiding the overall strategy of our organization. We recruit Board members for their specific professional and personal experience, striving to represent our Lancaster County community.  

Most Board members serve on a committee before joining the Board of Directors. Board members are responsible for developing policies, procedures, and regulations for the organization’s operations and monitoring financial health, programs, and overall performance. They maintain a working knowledge of finances, operations, programs, and legal framework.  

The Touchstone Foundation Board of Directors meets six times per year, on the second Thursday from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Additionally, officers serve on an Executive Committee which meets six times per year on the second Thursday from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.
